Ameriquest Field

Ameriquest.  It looms on the flat Texas horizon like an out of place Las Vegas hotel with a Southern Imperialist attitude.  It’s daunting.  Don’t mess with Texas, right?

It was a warm Texas night when we arrived at Ameriquest Field in Arlington, TX, somewhere between Dallas and Ft. Worth.  A Texas-sized Parking lot surrounds the stadium, but it somehow feels as if you are parking in a field.  A beautiful stream and trees run through the middle of the lot with a brick bridge to cross as you approach the monstrosity.

Unlike many of the newer parks, once you enter, Ameriquest makes no effort to let you gaze upon the endless landscape of farms & houses.  Instead, it surrounds you with many levels of seats and an outfield that reminds me of the huge white boat from the end of Disney’s “Splash Mountain” ride.  It’s a little claustrophobic – but you won’t be distracted by the view.  It’s all about the game, here.

I tried to ignore the billboards in the outfield and looked at the grassy area in center field where many locals run onto to retrieve home run balls.  I wasn’t able to make it to the outfield, but they apparently have activities for kids in that area.

And if you’re going to get a dog, you might as well make it a chili dog – Texas style.

I might mention that Kate called into the local radio station and was put on-air to comment about the excessive cost of parking at the stadium.  I don’t know… They do have a stream running through the parking lot.  Maybe that is worth 10 bucks.
