BALLPARKS
BALLPARKS
So there is not that much to say here... Well, at least not that much that is good. Well, tickets are cheap and the beer is reasonably priced, I guess?
This stadium is pretty bad. So bad, that I neglected to take any photos. Locally known as “The Vet” and first opened in 1971, it’s a hug concrete circle in the middle of a huge parking lot. It shares duties with the more-popular Eagles football team in an uninteresting area of Philadelphia, sort of near the airport.
On the positive side, I did get a kind of eerie flashback to my youth at the old Angel stadium. Stale beer and mediocre hot dogs. Concrete everywhere and that 70‘s/80’s baseball vibe.
The stadium is old and needs to be torn down. And it will be at the end of this season. Both the Phillies and the Eagles are getting new, and more importantly, separate parks. I look forward to coming back.
Update: The Vet was demolished by implosion in March 2004.
Update: Be sure to read my review of the new, much improved Phillies stadium, Citizens Bank Park.
